We spent the day with Sharon and Paul down in the Monterey Bay area. Once we got home about 11 PM I walked to the back of the house and saw a catastrophy. There were giant, orange glowing sections of Angel Island. I immediately thought that there had been a plane crash on the island during one of the airshows during the day’s Fleet Week events. Turned to SFGate.com and they are just calling it a wild fire and no mention of a plane crash. So that’s good, no one lost their life, except for the island. We almost went to the island a few weeks back when Phil was visiting, but got to the ferry area too late to have enough time to take it in. I regret it now because who knows when we’ll have another opportunity to see it. It is going to take years for the island to recover.
I was able to snap some photos, here they are:
And a really crappy video:

This is getting published a little late, but we took a trip a few weeks ago for our anniversary up the coast and into Oregon. We went as far north as Portland and then came back through Tahoe. A friend lent us her car for the trip, a hybrid Prius which saved us a ton on gas - thanks Sara!!!!
This is the bottom of a fallen redwood. I could have crawled inside, but wasn’t feeling that brave!

Dave in the redwoods - he finally had a legitimate excuse to use “big” and “wood” in the same sentence!

Our friend Betsy went to the University of Oregon in Eugene, so we stopped by for a look as we passed through. Betsy is a very enthusiastic U of O supporter (she once bought a bunch of us Oregon t-shirts when we went to watch a Cal/Oregon game!). So Betsy - this is for you! Go Ducks!!

While we were in Portland, we took a ride to the Columbia River Gorge to see waterfalls and Mount Hood. The waterfalls were great! Mount Hood, however, was a little shy……..

Did you ever doubt there was a Weed, CA?

And Tahoe - ah, Tahoe. I love Tahoe!

Of course, when we got home, the cat was VERY happy to see Dave. Even me, too! She was underfoot so much for a few days that I must have stepped on her five times! After that, she was not as excited to see me.

All in all, the perfect ending to a terrific first year of marriage! Love you Dave!

This past weekend we flew back home to witness our cousin Beth’s wedding. She married a great guy named Jeff and I suspect they’ll be very happy together for many years. As usual I had the camera so here are a few of the shots:

Continue to the rest of the set
Congrats to Beth and Jeff and may you enjoy many years of happiness together!

Today marks our first anniversary! I can’t believe a year has already gone by. If anyone wants to celebrate with us, get a bottle of champagne and have a toast at 4:45 PM EDT. Cheers!
