There are plenty of old wives’ tales out there that supposedly predict whether the baby will be a boy or a girl.  I have picked out a few to see what may be in store for us!

1. If you are carrying high with a big, round belly, you are having a girl.  If you are carrying low with a smaller belly that sticks straight out, it’s a boy.

I was carrying high earlier in the pregnancy, but my belly has dropped in the last couple weeks.  I definitely do not have a “smaller” belly.  I’m gonna give this one to the girls’ team.

2.  When your face gets fuller and rounder when pregnant, it means you’re going to have a girl.  If your face is long and narrow, it’s a boy.

One person has told me that my face looks fuller.  I don’t think I really have a long, narrow face to begin with and I think my face has pretty much stayed the same.  I’ll call this a tie.

3.  The Mayan tale adds the mothers age at conception and the year of conception.  If the result is a even number then mom is having a girl.  If the result is an odd number then a boy is on the way!

4.  People believe that if you are craving salty foods while pregnant, you can count on having a boy.  If you crave sweets, fruit, and orange juice, you are having a little girl.

Girl again!  I generally prefer salty foods, but have definitely noticed my cravings for sweets increase during this pregnancy.

5.  If your legs get really big, you’re having a boy.  If your legs stay in shape and lean, it’s a girl.  I think it’s too early for me to tell on this one.

Probably a tie again – my legs are bigger, but not “really” big.

6.  If you have dreams that you are having a boy, you will have a girl.  If you dream about having a girl, it will be a boy.  Dreams show the opposite of what you are having.

Tie!  I have had one of each dream!

7.  If a pregnant woman prefers to lay on her left side, she’s having a boy.  If she prefers resting on her right side, she’s having a girl.

I definitely prefer my left side – score one for the boys’ team!

8.  If a pregnant woman’s left breast is larger than the right breast, she’s having a girl.  If the right breast is larger, it’s a boy.

Yup, girl again.

9.  When a pregnant woman craves meat and cheese, count on a boy.

Not so much meat, but cheese has been a necessity during this pregnancy!  One more for the boys!

10.  If the linea negra (the line that runs down the middle of pregnant women’s bellies) only runs from the belly button down, you’re having a girl.  If the line runs above and below the belly button, it’s a boy.

Looks like the girls have a slight edge – 4 to 3  with 3 tied categories.  We’ll find out soon, so place your bets!
