We spent the day with Sharon and Paul down in the Monterey Bay area. Once we got home about 11 PM I walked to the back of the house and saw a catastrophy. There were giant, orange glowing sections of Angel Island. I immediately thought that there had been a plane crash on the island during one of the airshows during the day’s Fleet Week events. Turned to SFGate.com and they are just calling it a wild fire and no mention of a plane crash. So that’s good, no one lost their life, except for the island. We almost went to the island a few weeks back when Phil was visiting, but got to the ferry area too late to have enough time to take it in. I regret it now because who knows when we’ll have another opportunity to see it. It is going to take years for the island to recover.
I was able to snap some photos, here they are:
And a really crappy video:
UPDATE: To see pics from the day after checkout the full gallery.
This past weekend we flew back home to witness our cousin Beth’s wedding. She married a great guy named Jeff and I suspect they’ll be very happy together for many years. As usual I had the camera so here are a few of the shots:
My turn to talk about our “Nikola experience”. I had a lot of fun. Nikola is very very active and wore me out in only a few days. I seriously need to get back into shape and soon. The good news is this has begun.
I never imagined how much energy it takes to watch a 3 year old. I must say that I do appreciate the job Mom and Dad did raising three boys that much more.
Here are a handful of shots I took while we were playing in the park just up the street from us:
And here’s one video from us having dinner on Tuesday night
Overall it was a great experience and one that will surely help us some day down the road.
Ok, I’ve been back for over a week now, but I’ve been trying to upload all of my photos to meet all your demands for pictures! I’m going to post some here that have good stories to go with them, starting with the amazing safari cheetah pictures and videos……..Now, most people would be satisfied with just seeing African animals in person, but not our group. Oh no, we demanded more from our guides and boy, did they deliver!
It all started with this - an excited burst of Swahili over the radio and our guide zooming to this spot, then pointing and saying, “there’s a cheetah - it’s hunting.” And all of us grab for the binoculars for the chance to see the speck in the distance as more and more safari jeeps gather in our area. Eventually the cheetah runs away and disappears, much to our disappointment - but wait!
Over there, is that the cheetah coming towards us? And is that a gazelle in its mouth?????!!!!!!! At this point, general mayhem breaks out in the jeep with people dodging around each other, trying to get a picture. But as if that wasn’t exciting enough……….
The cheetah stops, drops the gazelle in front of it (right in front of our jeep), and starts to bark………..and then…………
Chelsea, who Meg works with back here in San Fran, was kind enough to send along a few other shots of Meg that she had taken. I’ll post more shots from Chelsea over the weekend.
